Helping a perfume business turn online demand into growth

Manual order handling was holding back a Sri Lankan perfume business. A custom solution supported its distribution model and helped the team scale its operations.

The challenge

Demand was there, but the operation could not comfortably keep up. The way this perfume business distributed its products did not fit the conventional POS and eCommerce systems it had considered. Staff relied on manual work, deliveries took too long and orders were being missed. The owner was reluctant to expand because handling more orders would add to the pressure.

What we built

  • Developed a custom solution suited to the business's product distribution model.
  • Addressed the manual operational work that made online orders difficult to manage.
  • Updated the system so the business could run its operation more smoothly as it grew.

What changed

With the updated solution in place, the business scaled its operations. Within a year, revenue reached five times its previous level, according to Nanobotz's account of the project. The owner could pursue demand with an operation better equipped to handle it.

What this experience taught us

A website can attract orders, but the operation behind it has to deliver them. Connecting online selling with the way products are actually distributed can make growth more manageable.

Questions for your own project

  • Where do orders wait, get re-entered or go missing?
  • Does your online store support the way you distribute products?
  • Could your team manage twice as many orders with its current process?
